(Jeremiah 23:28-29) “The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream; And he who has My word, let him speak My word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat?” says the Lord.29 “Is not My word like a fire?” says the Lord,“And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?”
Charles Haddon Spurgeon, the renowned “Prince of Preachers”, was once asked how he defended the Bible against the critics. His response was something along the lines of, “Defend it? I’d just as soon defend a lion! Unchain it and it will defend itself.”
This quote has caused some to refer to the Bible as its own evangelist. Though we may love the experiences we have with God, especially the mystical sort like dreams and visions, it must always be the word of God to which we return for our own growth and for ability to assist in the growth of others. To be a prophet, to dream dreams, would be a truly wonderful gift! But in comparison to the word of God, which He Himself honors above His very Name, it is like holding chaff alongside of a kernel of wheat. The chaff is worthless, simply blown away by the wind. The wheat nourishes and satisfies, as does every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Dive in and dig deep, and see what the Lord may speak to you today!
