Pastor Brian's "Every So Often" Devotional

(Jeremiah 3:22a) “Return, you backsliding children, And I will heal your backslidings.”
At a time in Israel’s history when they had forgotten the LORD, worshipped false gods, and perverted their lifestyle, God still cries out to them. Though judgment on the land has already been decreed, God still stands ready to bring the healing that matters most – healing of their spirits, and healing of their relationship with their God.
So often, our sin sets in motion consequences that God will not interrupt. In those times it is easy to look for anything that can get us out of the mess we’ve made. In reality, the most helpful attitude of our hearts in those times is to say not, “How can I get out of this?” but, “What can I get out of this?” Though we have no assurance that the consequence may be removed, the God who cries out to His wandering children to return and be healed will be waiting and watching for us, and will run to embrace us as did that dad of old for his prodigal son (Luke 15 – read the entire chapter…it won’t hurt you!). Wherever we may have wandered away, the call of the Father remains… “Return to Me, and I will heal your backslidings.”
